First of all, yogurt is touted by many as a healthy snack. But if you look at the sugar content you may get less sugar in a Twinkie! Most noteworthy, people are becoming concerned about how much sugar their children consume. Therefore, let’s take a look at yogurt. The most popular yogurts you feed to your children have high sugar content. Yogurt has more than 19 grams of sugar. While the Twinkie has 19 grams of sugar in it, yogurt has more.

Furthermore, the yogurt and the Twinkie have low-fat and non-fat in their labels. Therefore, low fat labeling gives people a false sense of confidence in yogurt. A-lot of people will say “No way! Yogurt is healthy!” Especially relevant, we need to look at the grams of sugar in yogurt. Let’s take a look at the numbers that prove it. Always check the nutrition labels before making your purchases.
  • The Sugar Contents:

  • Yoplait Original Strawberry has 26 grams of sugar in 6 oz. Furthermore, the label reads 99% fat free. The 99% fat free does not mean the item is healthy.

  • Dannon has 24 grams of sugar in 6 oz. This is too many grams of sugar.

  • Stonyfield Smooth & Creamy Low-fat French Vanilla has 29 grams of sugar in 8 oz. Stonyfield has 4 grams more sugar than Dannon.

  • Brown Cow Non-fat Vanilla has 25 grams of sugar in 6 oz. Hence, too much sugar.

  • Pushing the Sugar Content Up:

Most noteworthy, there is a natural occurring sugar in yogurts. This natural occurring sugar pushes the sugar count up. Furthermore, it’s common for low-fat yogurts to have high sugar levels. In addition, food companies add syrup to the fruit for flavoring. The sugary syrup raises the grams of sugar in the yogurt. Therefore, this will pack quite a wallop in the sugar department while hurting our health. Before you consider buying the yogurt read the labels on the container. Serving your kids a sugar rush will only bring them closer to ailments like type 2 diabetes.
  • Try the Greek Style:

Greek yogurt is a better choice because plain flavors have only 6 grams of sugar. Plain yogurt has no additional sugar added in fruits and flavors. Therefore, read the labels to get an idea of how to control high levels of sugar consumption. The label will tell you if the snack is healthy.

  • Activa blueberry has 19 grams of sugar 4.4 oz. Activa is marketed as a valuable healthy diet and has as much sugar as a twinkie.

In conclusion, this should be a real concern for anyone who cares about their health. Because The American Heart Association recommends that men should consume only 36 grams of sugar per day. Women should consume 20 grams of sugar per day.  29 grams of sugar in one serving is almost your allowance for the day. Hence, this will leave you little room for other sugars the rest of the day.
