“Glucose and Low Glycemic Foods By Weight Loss Made Simple!”

  • The Harvard Diet Reviews:

First of all, a recent Harvard study found that the low glycemic diet was the best of three popular diets. In addition, the diet reviews know the low glycemic diet  maintains metabolism during weight loss and cardiovascular health. But what is it — and what are low glycemic foods anyway?

  • Glycemic Index Diet:

The glycemic index diet or the low glycemic diet emphasizes unprocessed foods, complex carbs and food combining. Furthermore, the diet was originally developed as a diet to help diabetes patients regulate their blood sugar. Foods that are high in sugar effect weight and cause type 2 diabetes. Many popular diets, including Nutrisystem, the Zone diet, Sugar Busters and South Beach diet incorporate low glycemic principles. Therefore, to keep it simple just think of the word glycemic as sugar. We all eat foods that are glycemic and the low glycemic diet works. According to the studies, the low glycemic diet has a calorie breakdown. 40 percent of total calories come from carbohydrates, 40 percent from fats and 20 percent from protein.

To understand the low glycemic diet, one needs to understand the way that carbohydrates affect blood sugar. The glycemic index measures the speed at which food breaks down in the digestive system to form glucose(sugar). In addition, the glucose enters the blood stream to feed every cell in your body. Everybody eats glycemic foods, but to stay healthy one must stay on the low glycemic diet. The index is scored on a scale of 100, with 100 representing pure glucose. Furthermore, foods that are broken down quickly into glucose get a high score (usually over 70). Foods that are slow to break down get a low score (under 55).

  • High Glycemic Foods:

Most noteworthy, high glycemic foods include fruit juices, breads, starchy foods like potatoes, sweets, and baked goods. High glycemic foods lack fiber, fat and protein, which help moderate the release of sugar while you gain weight. I have been in the fitness and weight loss industry for almost 3 decades and weight loss is my passion. That said, I mentioned breads as one of the diet no no’s according to, some diet reviews. Well, that is not all true. If you like bread, which I do, there are low glycemic foods and bread can be one of them. When choosing the right breads, you must look at the glycemic index or sugar amount on the label. Furthermore, if the sugar amount contains more than 2 to 3 grams of sugar avoid the bread. For weight loss choose foods that are low in sugar.

  • Low glycemic foods include oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice, beans and vegetables, which are packed with fat, fiber and protein and cause a slow, steady digestion, leading to a longer period of satiety.

Low glycemic foods and the goal of the low glycemic diet is to eat unprocessed, unrefined carbohydrates. In conclusion, combine healthy proteins and fats to improve satiety by keeping digestion slow. The quick release of glucose triggers a hormone response that tells your brain you’re hungry. Hence, being  problematic for dieters who are trying to reduce their overall sugar intake. Consistently high or modulating blood sugar can contribute to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is associated with metabolic syndrome conditions like Type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Most noteworthy, the research came from the Mayo Clinic and in my opinion hit the nail right on the head! I eat low glycemic foods because the diet is for weight loss and the low glycemic diet is for life.

  • The USDA Diet Reviews:

The diet reviews are not without some controversy. For example, the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines For Americans stated these findings. The USDA stated that glycemic index diets are not associated with body weight. Therefore stating the diet does not lead to greater weight loss or better weight maintenance.

Additionally, the diet receives criticism from many nutritionists and researchers because the index is difficult to navigate. Furthermore making some imperfect choices. Some candies with nuts score lower than potatoes. In addition, brown and white rice score the same, as do white and whole wheat bread. Healthful foods like carrots and ripe bananas receive high scores, while table sugar has a medium score. I have been on a low glycemic diet most of my professional career and if you want to achieve weight loss the USDA is not the answer.
